Mini Doc: Nigel Westlake's Missa Solis
In my role as Digital Content Producer at the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, I was privileged to interview Australian composer Nigel Westlake about the creation of his symphony entitled Missa Solis.
This work was created in memoriam of his deceased son, who was murdered, and as such, the interview I conducted with him was a sensitive affair. I felt a deep sense of empathy for Nigel, and I am proud of how I conducted this interview, in which I managed to be deeply respectful of Nigel's lived experience without shying away from the heart of the matter.
As I crafted this piece in the edit, I felt deeply connected to the subject matter and poured love into what I felt was my small token of acknowledgement towards this man's suffering, and to his quiet heroism in transmuting that suffering into a creation of truly sublime music.
